The TrainEnergy project has identified gaps in the training of tradesmen regarding the construction of energy efficient buildings and the EU Energy Performance of Building Directive.  The project has also found that there is a lack of knowledge of their trade impacts the energy performance of the building and how the trades need to work together to construct energy efficient buildings.

To address this knowledge gap the TrainEnergy project has produced a training programme and material that provides tradesmen with knowledge of new techniques and technologies for constructing energy efficient buildings and also how their trade impacts other trades.  This material is available in English, French, German, Spanish and Danish.

Twenty-four trainers from six countries and five different trades have already been taught during “Train the Trainers” course in Biberach, Germany in July 2010. The criteria to select trainers were:

  1. Working as a professional with teaching experience in the field at a school, university or vocational training centre or working full-time as a teacher in the field ata school, university or vocational training centre.
  2. Knowledge of energy efficiency in buildings for at least one of the selected crafts.
  3. Sound knowledge of English, including technical English.

The first training courses for tradesmen were provided by Stephenson College in the UK, Cork Institute of Technology in Ireland, Gem. Berufsförderungswerk in Germany, ADICO in Spain, SDE in Denmark and GIP in France between November 2010 and March 2011. The training material used for these courses is available for download here, or if you would like to receive receiving a DVD of this material containing the original PowerPoint presentations or want more information about the course please contact us.
